1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback

289 Cubic Inch V8 - 4.7 Litre

There is more to life than miles per gallon !!

OK, I have had the car since 2nd January, 1996, imported for me by "Marjon Importers",Darlington. Did a great service sourcing the exact car I wanted, and bringing it over and registering it. Doing all the fiddly legal stuff for me.

Anyway, brief description of what I have. It is a 1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback, (or sports roof ???)

It has a "C" code V8 engine of 289 Cubic inch, 4.7 litre, which is not the worlds most powerful spec, but does me fine.

BUT... The most interesting thing is the production date, January 12th, 1965, just after Christmas, so it must have been one of the very first Fastbacks off the production line, as well as the convertibles and coupes, as fastbacks were not produced in 1964. This holds some water as the car is made up of many 1964 parts. You can tell this as the first 2 digits of the part number signifies the year, C4 is 1964, C5 is 1965,  D1 is 1971 and so on...

Production number is 73,113 which started at 00001 in 1964, so fairly low considering they made 1,500,000 cars in the 1964 - 1966 run. Made in the very new San Jose production plant.

Also the hood (bonnet) does not fit properly, which is a funny design flaw with the 1964 cars. The shape was revised for the proper 1965 range. Engine block is Dec '64, headlight bezels are '64 as part number is C4**,  The interior door hardware is clipped  (64) on not screwed (65-)

So, some Photos of some 1964 bits on my early 65 fastback.....
